Our grand girl thrived on this for over 2 years, from about 6 months on. Mom was working and could not keep up with production. This is what we did, I made a half gallon at a time. It was a labor of love.
This is the cow’s milk formula. There is also a goat’s milk and a meat-based formula. You can find them in this cookbook, Nourishing Traditions (fabulous cookbook).
This makes 1/2 gallon of formula and would last me 2 days when she was an infant.
INGREDIENTS
Use organic when possible, see resources below. This looks like a lot, but after you’ve done it a couple of times, it takes about 15 minutes!
4 Cups filtered or distilled water - do not use tap water
1/2 Cup lactose
4 tsp gelatin
5 tsp coconut oil
1/4 Cup raw cream
4 tsp nutritional yeast flakes
1/2 tsp acerola powder
1/2 tsp probiotic (you’ll have to open a capsule)
2 tsp cod liver oil (CLO)
2 tsp extra virgin olive or flax oil
4 Cups raw milk
Directions
Add gelatin & lactose to 2 Cups of water
Heat gently till gelatin dissolved (I used low heat and a small whisk)
Stir in the rest of the water and coconut oil
Put all ingredients except 1 Cup milk into a 1/2 gallon jar
Use a stick blender to blend well
Add the last C of milk & blend or shake to mix
You’ll want to blend or shake well to remix the oils before filling a bottle.
Store in fridge
NOTE: I have made without CLO or probiotic when I ran out.

I research hard when it comes to my supplements (I use them, too). I am particularly diligent when it comes to food for baby. Babies are awesome and, right now, they are building brains, heart, teeth, bones, EVERYTHING. This is when nutrition is THE most critical. They can have french fries later… now they need serious nutrition. I looked for the best value but with things like Cod liver oil, in particular, a cheaper option might be harmful. Don’t skimp.
