Food Allergy Causes and Cures
Yes, food allergy causes and CURES. The cure boils down to one item: heal your gut. There are several routes to the cure, just like there are several routes to gut health destruction.
Funny, a not-so-funny thing is that every single path to gut health destruction I've ever heard of is FDA-approved. Just sayin'.
This post on one of my yahoo groups is what set me off on gut health:
"The past three years I'm dealing with food allergies. Have gone to an allergy specialist 2 hours drive from here for 5 weeks for testing and counselling. I was offered allergy shots which are not a permanent solution. I opted to do elimination trials and remove the offending foods from my diet."
She went on to point out certain critical changes in my generation's lifestyle. Baby boomers (born between 1946 and 1964) are the first generation to:
be mass vaccinated;
be subjected to 'sanitizing' with chemical detergents, room deodorant sprays, fire-proof clothing, synthetic fragrances;
be plasticized: plastics to wear, to sleep in and on; plastics to store, wrap and cook food in;
endure a myriad of chemical medicine injected into blood and/or muscle;
be guesstimated to not live as long as the previous.
Today's lifestyle has us surrounded by chemicals: in our yards, houses, clothing, bodies, parks, crops, foods and air. And all resulting in newer diseases (Alzheimer's, most auto-immune diseases) and a ramping up of all the others (cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, the other auto-immune diseases).
This bugs me. DH and I are baby boomers. I want to live as long as Granny Boo. And I want exceptional quality of life until the day I die. This did not used to be asking for much. Now, it's an uphill battle and requires changing the world. Ok, I'm in for that.
How a Food Allergy Starts
Let's say you are a human with a leaky gut. You eat or drink a food. Tiny particles of that food slip through your leaky gut wall into your body where it is identified as a toxin. Heck, what else would be floating around in your body where it's not supposed to be?
Although you may not feel anything, that food particle is attacked by your immune system. Your body has now identified this food as a toxin and the setup for a food allergy has been established.
You may not have a reaction the first time. Your body, however, is on the lookout. At some point, when you eat that food again, your body will release histamine in order to save you from the toxin. A histamine release = allergic reaction = inflammation.
That is my short non-scientific description of the leaky gut/food allergy connection. There are many, many more consequences to a leaky gut besides food allergies! For the fascinating complete picture, read Gut and Psychology Syndrome: Natural Treatment for Autism, Dyspraxia, A.D.D., Dyslexia, A.D.H.D., Depression, Schizophrenia by Natasha Campbell McBride.
How Does One Acquire "Leaky Gut"?
Independent research points to vaccine ingredients and Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). All FDA-approved, of course.
GMOs are why commercially-prepared foods are so damaging to the gut: 95% of all corn, soy, cottonseed and canola are GM. You now have GM sweet corn. Alfalfa was just approved despite overwhelming public outcry against. The FDA is about to approve GM salmon, despite the same outcry.
If your sugar does not specify CANE, it's GM beet sugar. (Domino's cane sugar is not GM and they promise it never will be.)
To learn more about GMOs, the scientists who have studied them, the results of that research and the leaky gut connection, watch Genetic Roulette - The Gamble of Our Lives. You can rent it for $2.99 at Amazon. I've seen it three times so far and bought the DVD to share with friends.
How To Cure Food Allergies:
You have to stop eating the foods that you are allergic to, of course, but that won't solve the problem. As other tiny bits of food slip through your gut wall, your body will attack them the same way. There are people with guts and immune systems so compromised, they are allergic to just about everything.
However, when you heal your gut, you can add foods to your diet.
First, stop eating all GM foods, which means nothing in a box, bag, can or jar. Not even from Trader Joe's. Unless the label on a prepared food says "organic" or Non-GMO Project Verified, you can bet it has GM foods in it.
Remember, too, there are ingredients the FDA considers to be GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe). GRAS foods do not have to be listed on a label. The FDA says GMOs are GRAS. The FDA is pretty much alone in this conclusion. Just sayin'.
If you care to drill it down further, consider what the food you eat eats. CAFO animals are fed GM grains, not to mention growth-promoting hormones and prophylactic antibiotics. If you eat CAFO foods, you ingest residual toxins. However, meats, milk and eggs from animals raised on pasture and fed non-GM feed, while usually more expensive, are of superior nutritional quality.
Start small -- any change is good! Buy what you can afford from a local farmer, starting with eggs and raw milk, if you can get it. Our raw milk is $9/gallon. Dollar for dollar, it's the best food we have in our kitchen. We drink 3 gallons a week. Heck, some days, it's all I have. The boys, too.
If you can't find a local pastured meat farmer, check out U.S. Wellness Meats online.
For fruits and veggies, go organic as much as possible. Start with the clean 15. Work your way up to as clean a diet as you can.
Consider adding Resistant Starch to your diet. I'm writing a complete post on that next. RS heals the gut, among other things. If you are like me and love to read about this stuff, go to freetheanimal.com and search for resistant starch posts. Michael is the reigning expert on the matter, although word is spreading on this like wildfire.
Give your diet changes 3 months (90 days is a good amount of time for a test), see if any allergies clear up. See what else clears up, too.
Wait -- Can't I Just Ask My Doctor?
Yes, but you won't hear any of this. Doctors are not trained in preventative therapy.
Click the picture here and watch the slide show. You won't see the word "cure" anywhere. In fact, the inference is that food allergies are with you forever.
When you ask most doctors about GMOs or RS, they warn you away. If you stick with a conventional allergy specialist, you will get (expensive) treatment and never be cured. If you want a cure, you're going to have to find it yourself.
